If you're looking for speargun band rubber that keeps stretching as long as you can pull it, holds energy well, and has a continuous smooth release rather than a pop and a cloud of bubbles that translates into speargun muzzle kick, then this is the rubber for you.

Understanding rubber tubing measurements

Following the diagram; for a typical 5/8" band you can add 1/4"(2/8") left wall diameter + 1/8" inner diameter + 1/4"(2/8") right wall diameter for a total of 5/8". Thus the designation for 5/8" band tubing is 1/8" X 1/4" (ID X Wall).

With our custom tubing the ID (hole) has been reduced by half (1/16") and the wall has been increased by 1/32". The band has a smaller hole but is still 5/8" or 3/4" diameter. Smaller hole = less water in the band and more rubber = more power at the same diameter. The designation for our small ID tubing is thus 1/16 X 9/32(ID X Wall) for 5/8 tubing, and 1/16" X 11/32" (ID X Wall) for 3/4 tubing.

Why the format of this rubber tubing was chosen

• Amber is the natural color of the rubber. The best properties of the rubber are retained when it is in it's most natural form.
• The manufacturing process for colored rubber including black entails nothing more than adding dye to the rubber with one exception. The exception is that when the rubber is natural colored adjustments to viscosity can be made during the manufacturing process. These adjustments are possible becasue the state of the rubber is visible when it is natural colored. When the rubber is black there are no adjustments because there is no apparent difference in the black rubber during the process so it's a straight shot deal. Adjusting the viscosity if necessary during production will result in better rubber.
• Adding dye means that whatever amount you add an equal amount gets replaced to accommodate the dye, in this case rubber. Hence the more dye the less rubber, albeit we're talking small amounts.
• Lighter colors require much more dye. Black being a dark color requires a small amount of dye.
• The only advantage to black is that it is more sun resistant.
• An amber band with a black exterior, like the one we're selling, is the best of both worlds.

Concerns were raised about whether a smaller inner diameter will make wishbones difficult to insert. This is not true. We've easily inserted wishbones into a solid piece of bulk rubber with a hole poked into it. A solid power band (with no inner diameter) would be ideal. You get the maximum amount of rubber possible and zero water intrusion. The problem is that the manufacturing process requires an inner diameter, the minimum being 1/16".
